The olive tree has its origin from Asia Minor, from Iran’s plateau, where it was grown 8000 years ago. The olive tree arrived in Italy, thanks to the Etruscans who cultivated them and produced Olive oil around the VII century b.c. Thanks to the Romans, the olive tree was exported to all their colonies situated along the Mediterranean sea. At that time, the olive oil became an important ingredient of the Romans’ diet and to this day is considered one of the most important ingredients of the “Mediterranean Diet”. In Lucca, the tradition of the Extra Virgin Olive Oil production is so old that in documents dated XIX c. it was underlined that the most appreciated Oils for refinement are from Lucca. Lucca Extra Virgin Olive Oil is so world known that Concise Oxford Dictionary defines “LUCCA OIL: superior quality of olive oil…” Its unique oil is cited in the dictionary and associated with world famous high quality products like COGNAC and CHAMPAGNE.
